NASCAR Set to Bring Championship Showdown Back to Homestead Miami Speedway in 2026

The NASCAR championship race is set to return to Homestead-Miami Speedway. According to Athletic, the title event will be held at this 1.5-mile intermediate track again starting in 2026. From 2002 to 2019, Homestead hosted the final races for the NASCAR Cup Series, Xfinity Series, and Truck Series seasons.

Homestead is highly regarded across all three series, especially in the Cup Series, due to its progressive banking in the corners which promotes multi-groove racing. The tire wear during pit stops also creates opportunities for passing, allowing drivers to advance by effectively managing their tires.

In 2020, the championship race moved to Phoenix as part of an upgrade to that one-mile track. However, Phoenix is not viewed as representative of the typical challenges drivers face throughout the NASCAR season. In contrast, Homestead is similar to many other mid-length tracks on the schedule, such as Kansas, Las Vegas, Texas, and Darlington. Success at Homestead often indicates strong performance at these other venues.

Kyle Busch clinched the last Cup Series title race held at Homestead in 2019, while since 2014 NASCAR has focused its final race on four championship contenders at the Cup level. Joey Logano secured his third Cup Series championship by winning the season finale in Phoenix in 2024.

Besides being an ideal location for championship races, Homestead’s favorable November weather also makes it one of the few tracks suitable for hosting the season finale.

Fan Take: Bringing the championship race back to Homestead-Miami Speedway is a win for NASCAR fans who appreciate classic, competitive racing on intermediate tracks. This move could restore some traditional excitement and strategic depth to the season finale, revitalizing fan engagement and emphasizing driver skill on a track that truly tests their abilities.
