Russell Wilson was drawn to the New York Giants partly because of the opportunity to throw to Malik Nabers, a promising second-year wide receiver. Nabers, who played at LSU, had an impressive rookie season with 109 receptions totaling 1,204 yards and seven touchdowns. During his breakout year, Nabers set several NFL rookie and franchise records for receptions. He also became the youngest wide receiver in NFL history to score multiple touchdowns in a single game and was the fastest player to reach 100 career catches, making him one of the most dependable targets in the league for Wilson.

Wilson praised Nabers on the “7pm in Brooklyn” podcast, calling him a superstar and highlighting his dynamic playing style. Wilson recalled specific plays, like a 60-70 yard touchdown screen against the Colts and a tough, resilient catch on a shallow cross against the Commanders, illustrating Nabers’ toughness and skill. Selected sixth overall in the 2024 NFL Draft, Nabers quickly met the high expectations placed on him, earning a Pro Bowl spot despite missing two games due to a concussion.

Assuming Wilson starts for the Giants in Week 1, he will be the fourth quarterback to lead the team with Nabers as the go-to wide receiver, part of a significant quarterback overhaul. Wilson’s one-year deal is guaranteed at $10.5 million and could total up to $21 million. At 36, he was the only Steelers starter to achieve a 6-6 record last season, though the team ended on a five-game losing streak.

Fan Take: This pairing of Wilson and Nabers is exciting for NFL fans as it combines a seasoned quarterback with a young, record-breaking receiver, suggesting the Giants’ offense could surge in the coming season. It also underscores how vital emerging talents like Nabers are in shaping the future of NFL teams and their success.
