Aaron Rodgers Signs One-Year, $13.65 Million Deal with Steelers, Will Don Number 8 in Pittsburgh

Aaron Rodgers is officially a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers. The seasoned quarterback visited the Steelers’ practice facility to finalize a one-year deal, as announced by Pittsburgh on Saturday.

The contract is valued at $13.65 million, with $10 million guaranteed, and could reach up to $19.5 million when factoring in incentives related to playing time and team success. The Steelers also revealed that Rodgers will sport the No. 8 jersey this season, a number he previously wore during his two years with the New York Jets. This is a change from the No. 12 he donned throughout his 18 seasons with the Green Bay Packers.

Rodgers ended weeks of speculation earlier this week by agreeing to the one-year contract after a lengthy offseason filled with rumors. The four-time NFL MVP will be suited up in Steelers gear, bringing a legacy that has sparked plenty of debate over winners and losers in the league.

Rodgers’ move to Pittsburgh comes after two underwhelming seasons with the Jets. Following changes in New York’s coaching and management staff this offseason, Rodgers was informed he was no longer part of the Jets’ future plans.

In the weeks that followed, the 41-year-old considered retirement. Despite Rodgers’ uncertain signals, the Steelers remained hopeful about his availability. Head coach Mike Tomlin described Rodgers’ visit in March as "productive."

Joining the Steelers, Rodgers will look to lift a team that has experienced general mediocrity despite a recent winning streak. Pittsburgh also added receiver DK Metcalf through a trade this offseason, giving Rodgers a key target. On defense, the Steelers rely on star edge rusher TJ Watt to bolster their chances of success.

Rodgers’ commitment to Pittsburgh sets the stage for some thrilling matchups in the 2025 season, including early games against his former teams, the Jets and the Packers.

Fan Take: This signing is huge for NFL fans as it not only breathes new life into the Steelers but also sets up compelling storylines for next season with Rodgers facing off against his former teams. His presence could reshape the competitive landscape and reignite excitement around a franchise hungry for a return to glory.
