Rocky Powers Mets to Victory with Game-Winning Homer, Sealing a Dominant Sweep

The Mets enjoyed a sunny, warm Sunday afternoon at Coolsfield, accompanied by a refreshing six-pack—not the kind you drink, but a powerful display from their bats. Since 2021, the Mets’ lineup hasn’t lacked power in the series finale against the Rockies, as they smashed six home runs in the game, leading to a 13-5 win and a decisive road series sweep. New York currently sits at a season-high 18 games above .500 with a 4.5-game lead in the NL East.

The Mets’ lineup showed impressive power from top to bottom. The home run barrage kicked off early with Jeff McNeill, who battled for 10 pitches at-bat against the Rockies’ starter. Chase Drawland followed by driving a fastball into the right-field bullpen for a solo shot. Then, third baseman Pete Alonso flexed his muscles with a two-run homer, pushing him to second place on the franchise’s all-time home run list with 242.

McNeill and Alonso returned for another round. McNeill crushed his second homer of the game in the fourth—a towering three-run shot deep into the right-field seats—extending the Mets’ lead to a comfortable 8-0. Alonso followed with his 17th homer of the season, a two-run blast, making it 12-3 and solidifying his hold on second place in the Mets’ home run rankings.

Two additional homers from Bretti Batty (7th) and Francisco Alvarez (9th) capped off a strong weekend of Mets offense. They racked up 17 hits across the three-game series, bolstering their standing against the Rockies and reinforcing their status as a potent offense in the league.

Alonso praised McNeill’s hot hitting after the game, saying, "He’s just swinging the bat well, hitting high-quality pitches in the zone that let him lift the ball. It’s really cool to see him surpass expectations. For me, I just want to help the team win whenever I can." He emphasized his focus on driving the ball and helping the team, noting he’s blessed but far from settling, with the team’s sights firmly set on more victories.

McNeill, who had three extra-base hits and his third multi-home run game in his career, also complimented Alonso, joking with reporters about how far behind he was in the Mets’ power race. The gap is 169 home runs, but when focusing on the 2025 season alone, McNeill trails Alonso by just 11.

"Alonso is pretty incredible this year," McNeill said. "He’s locked in at every plate appearance and looks to do damage in big moments. He’s on pace to break rookie home run records this season."

Interestingly, not every Mets player contributed to the offensive explosion. Francisco Lindor went hitless in five at-bats, and Brandon Nemo ended 1-for-6. Meanwhile, Juan Soto had a quieter day, with three singles and three walks, reaching a career-high six walks in a game.

Fan Take: This dominant display by the Mets’ lineup highlights their deep power and consistency, making them a formidable force in the National League. For baseball fans, it signals the rise of a team that could shape the future of the sport, blending veteran talent with emerging stars to keep the excitement alive throughout the season.
