A major boxing showdown has been officially scheduled: Saul “Canelo” Alvarez will face Terrence “Bud” Crawford in Las Vegas on September 13th for Alvarez’s undisputed super middleweight title. The fight will be streamed live on Netflix, as confirmed in a recent press release. This announcement ends speculation about the venue, date, and promotion of the bout, which involved WWE and UFC owners’ company TKO, working alongside Turki Alalshikh, Riyadh Season, and Sela. Dana White of TKO expressed excitement, calling it a once-in-a-lifetime event, especially since it’s the first boxing fight he’s promoting.

In 2023, anticipation for the Alvarez vs. Crawford fight surged, especially after Crawford’s victory over Errol Spence Jr., which made him the undisputed welterweight champ. Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) will move up significantly in weight to 168 pounds to challenge Alvarez (62-2-2, 39 KOs), who holds titles at multiple weights up to 175 pounds. Alvarez noted his pride in making history once again, this time during Riyadh season on Netflix, promising to prove he’s the top pound-for-pound fighter.

Recently, Alvarez claimed the undisputed 168-pound championship by beating Dmitry Bivol, marking his second title reign at super middleweight and fulfilling a contract with Riyadh season. Both fighters boast world championships in four weight divisions, positioning them as two of the era’s best, with Crawford ranked fourth and Alvarez seventh in the CBS Sports Pound-for-Pound rankings. Though the exact venue isn’t confirmed, the fight is rumored to take place at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, home to the NFL’s Raiders.

This fight also builds on the momentum boxing is gaining on Netflix, following Jake Paul’s match against Mike Tyson and the upcoming Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano trilogy, signaling an exciting era for boxing fans.

Fan Take: This matchup is a monumental event for boxing enthusiasts, uniting two of the best fighters of this generation with undisputed titles on the line. Its high-profile nature and Netflix streaming could bring a new, broader audience to the sport, potentially elevating its popularity and setting new standards for major boxing events.
