Von Miller Strikes Deals with Commanders Following Their Bill Release Announcement

Von Miller is set to continue his NFL journey with the Washington Commanders. The eight-time Pro Bowler revealed on Instagram Wednesday that he plans to sign with the DC team, four months after being released by the Buffalo Bills. Details of the deal have not been disclosed yet.

The Bills decided to release Miller to save $8.6 million in cap space, marking the end of an underwhelming stint that began with high expectations. Miller was one of the top free agents in the 2022 offseason and had signed a six-year, $120 million contract with Buffalo.

Miller’s start in Buffalo showed promise with eight sacks in 11 games, but an ACL injury on Thanksgiving 2022 derailed his season. He ended up without any sacks in 12 games and struggled to make a significant impact as a situational pass rusher. Additionally, he faced legal troubles, including a third felony assault charge related to an incident with a pregnant woman, though the accuser later recanted. Due to this incident, Miller was suspended for four games in 2024 and has played a limited role with the Bills.

Now with the Commanders, at age 36, there is hope that Miller still has something to offer. A clear Hall of Famer with 129.5 career sacks, he was ranked 8th in sacks last season in the NFL.

Alongside their promising offensive rookie class, the Commanders currently hold the sixth-best Super Bowl odds at +1800 according to BetMGM. The team has been very active this offseason, acquiring Pro Bowl offensive tackle Lane Johnson, standout wide receiver Deebo Samuel, and veteran linebacker Bobby Wagner.

Fan Take: This signing is significant because it gives a veteran defensive force a fresh start with a team on the rise. Miller’s experience and talent could be the X-factor that helps turn the Commanders into genuine playoff contenders, bringing renewed excitement to the NFL.
