Denny Hamlin, the 44-year-old NASCAR driver, has put to rest any speculation about his retirement by signing a new yearly contract extension to continue driving the No. 11 Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) Toyota. While the specific terms of the deal were not disclosed, Hamlin expressed his appreciation for the JGR team, highlighting their strong start to the season and the addition of new partners as reasons for excitement about the future.

Hamlin has been with JGR throughout his NASCAR Cup career since 2005, racing in the No. 11 and previously the No. 1 car, winning a total of 58 races including four this season. Recently, he secured a win at Dover, outperforming teammate Chase Briscoe. Despite never winning a NASCAR Cup championship, Hamlin holds the record for the most wins without a title and ranks 11th on the all-time wins list, just shy of entering the top ten. His impressive résumé also includes three Daytona 500 victories, three Southern 500 wins, the 2022 Coca-Cola 600, and the 2015 All-Star Race.

Joe Gibbs, owner of JGR, praised Hamlin’s long-standing talent and commitment, noting it’s remarkable for him to maintain such a high level of competition over many years. In addition to driving, Hamlin is also a co-owner of the 23XI Racing team alongside NBA legend Michael Jordan.

Fan Take: This contract extension reinforces Denny Hamlin’s status as a NASCAR powerhouse and a cornerstone for Joe Gibbs Racing, keeping one of the sport’s most skilled and consistent drivers on the track. For fans, it guarantees continued thrilling competition and leadership from a driver who has been close to greatness for years, making the chase for a championship all the more compelling.
