Bayern Munich has reached a €75 million ($88 million) agreement to acquire Liverpool winger Luis Diaz, according to a source from ESPN.

Diaz missed Liverpool’s recent friendly match against AC Milan amidst ongoing rumors about his potential transfer, and has now been granted permission to leave the club’s preseason tour in Asia.

Sources first indicated that Diaz wished to depart Liverpool during the summer of 2024, but the club resisted due to its valuation of both the player and the market.

Negotiations for a contract extension have faltered due to a disconnect between the offer and the club’s asking price.

Liverpool has been keen on multiple players this summer, turning down advances from both Barcelona and Bayern Munich, stating those players are not available for transfer.

ESPN sources revealed that a €67.5 million bid from Bayern was rejected earlier this month.

Last season, Diaz had the most successful year of his career at Liverpool, netting 17 goals across competitions, contributing to the team’s Premier League title victory.

The forward joined Liverpool from FC Porto in January 2022 and has a contract lasting until 2027.

His upcoming transfer could help offset some of Liverpool’s hefty spending this summer, as they are estimated to have invested around £290 million on new signings, including Florian Wirtz, Jeremy Doku, Milos Kerkez, Giorgi Mamardashvili, and Hugo Ekitike.

Fan Take: The potential departure of Luis Diaz is significant for soccer fans as it highlights shifting dynamics in top clubs’ rosters and their financial strategies. This transfer could also pave the way for Liverpool to rebuild and strengthen their squad, creating a more competitive atmosphere in the league.
