Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski, who will be a free agent next summer.

The veteran Polish striker remains a key player for Barça, but he will be 38 years old at the start of next season, so it seems unlikely that he will be able to extend his contract beyond this season.

Barcelona coach Hansi Flick may have been understandably concerned about Lewandowski’s ability to continue playing in a high-energy, high-pressing system by that point.

As a result, there is a possibility that the former Bayern Munich player could be acquired on a free transfer, with Man United being talked about as a potential transfer destination.

According to the Daily Star, Man United could be interested in signing Lewandowski when his contract expires.

The Red Devils have tried to sign Poland internationals before, dating back to Sir Alex Ferguson’s time as manager.

Lewandowski has spoken publicly about the transfer spree, admitting that he said yes to a move to Old Trafford, but that Borussia Dortmund, his club at the time, prevented him from doing so.

Robert Lewandowski’s transfer talk doesn’t seem very convincing.

Overall, the Daily Star report seems more speculation than anything, but it is unclear whether United are currently seriously considering Lewandowski.

The Daily Star appears to have put together two articles: Lewandowski available for free next summer and past interest from United.

Still, this interest has been around for more than a decade, so it doesn’t seem to have much relevance to the current situation, and one would imagine that MUFC would also be concerned about Lewandowski’s age.

At 37, he is still a great striker, but bringing him to a competitive league like the Premier League at this age is a gamble, so the club will no doubt focus on younger players.
