Brooks Koepka’s 2026 LIV Golf status determined, according to report

Is Brooks Koepka’s playing time at LIV Golf over?

His contract with the league doesn’t expire until 2026, but there’s a chance he won’t play in the next LIV golf season, Sports Business Journal’s Josh Carpenter reported Monday, citing four golf officials.

The report is part of an interview with LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neill, who told SBJ: “I know you don’t want to hear this, you just want to hear about the individual player, but this goes back to our policy and we’re going to follow through on it. So we haven’t announced anything about the player, but he’s signed through 2026.”

Koepka’s future in the league has been in question for months. “There’s a contractual obligation to fulfill here, and then we’ll see what happens,” Koepka said earlier this year. When asked about the direction of the league, he added, “I think everyone would have liked to see it go a little further. That’s no secret.” “You always hope that everything goes further, no matter where you are. But they’re making progress and it looks like they’re going in the right direction.”

Smash GC’s Brooks Koepka hits a shot from the 5th tee during the first day of the LIV Golf Team Championship Michigan held at St. John’s Cardinal on August 22, 2025 in Plymouth, Michigan.

Even if Koepka were to bow out of LIV Golf in 2026, he would be eligible to play in all four majors thanks to his 2023 PGA Championship win. He is also a member of the DP World Tour and will be available for these events.

As for a return to the PGA Tour, he probably won’t be eligible to play until August 2026. Former LIV players had to wait one calendar year after their last competitive date in LIV Golf to return to the PGA Tour. That means Koepka won’t be eligible until after the 2026 Tour Championship.

And even if he were reinstated, it is questionable whether he would be forced to pay fines or other disciplinary action.

However, if Koepka were to move on from LIV Golf, his franchise, Smash GC, would be looking for a new captain. Team members include Talor Gooch, Graeme McDowell and Jason Kokrak. This is his 5th win, second only to Joaquin Niemann in terms of individual wins in league matches.
