Jake Paul Claims Jaw Injury Suffered During Defeat to Anthony Joshua

Anthony Joshua secured a knockout victory over Jake Paul in the sixth round, a win that might not have delivered the dramatic moments fans expected but likely left Paul with significant medical expenses. Paul claimed on Netflix’s Main Event that Joshua broke his jaw, a statement supported by a close-up image showing Paul’s teeth in disarray. Analysts had predicted Paul might last only a couple of rounds against the two-time unified heavyweight champion, but he managed to endure until the sixth round despite being knocked down four times before the fight was stopped.

Paul’s post-fight interview confirmed his broken jaw, supported by a video he shared online showing his bloodied mouth and misaligned teeth. The victory, however, somewhat damaged Joshua’s reputation since he had anticipated an early first-round knockout, a scenario he described as a “failure” if it didn’t happen. Joshua struggled to deliver clean hits until the fourth round when Paul began to slow down. Paul outperformed former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou by lasting four rounds longer and avoiding a knockout, but his tactics—keeping distance, clinching, and taking knees to stall—won’t boost confidence in his aspirations for a world title.

Following the win, Joshua (29-4, 26 KOs) called out Tyson Fury for an eagerly awaited bout, while Paul (12-2, 7 KOs) experienced his second professional loss but remains determined to capture the cruiserweight world championship.

Fan Take: This fight highlights the growing intersection of boxing and mainstream entertainment, showing how crossover bouts can attract huge attention but also raise questions about the purity of the sport. For fighting fans, Joshua’s challenge to Tyson Fury signals potential mega-events ahead that could redefine heavyweight boxing’s landscape.
