Anfield Watch reports that Liverpool are considering an ambitious and high-profile move for Ivan Toney in the January transfer window.

The Reds will be looking to strengthen their attacking depth for the crucial second half of the season.
With Liverpool still in the hunt for major honors, the club’s recruitment team are evaluating short-term solutions that could give Arne Slott more leverage.

Liverpool are fighting on multiple fronts, aiming to close in the race for the Premier League title, as well as advance in the FA Cup and UEFA Champions League.

The injury situation surrounding Alexander Isak, who is expected to miss a significant period following his withdrawal, has increased the urgency.

Liverpool need more depth in attack

Liverpool already see Isak and Hugo Ekitike as long-term pillars of their forward line, but the club are aware that relying too much on extended attacks during these tough times could derail their ambitions.

It was in that context that Tony’s name was brought up for discussion. The England international, who is currently plying his trade with Al Ahly, is having an excellent season, scoring 14 goals in 21 appearances in all competitions.

Despite operating outside of Europe, Toney maintains his sharpness, physical presence and efficiency in the penalty box.

Liverpool believe there are clear advantages to a potential transfer. Toney is already proven at Premier League level, meaning he will have minimal time to adapt.

Importantly, the January deal will not be about long-term succession planning, but rather will provide immediate depth and experience to get through the difficult stages of the campaign.

From Tony’s perspective, a return to England is understood to be attractive.

With the image of England’s national team firmly in mind ahead of the World Cup, regular appearances in the Premier League could significantly improve their chances of re-establishing themselves on the international stage.

Joining a high-profile club like Liverpool and competing in Europe’s top end would be the ideal platform for that ambition.
