Tom Hardy Declines Grappling Challenge from Arman Tsarukyan Until UFC Teammate Steps In

One of the UFC’s top lightweight contenders, Arman Tsarukyan, recently ended in a draw against Shara Magomedov in a high-profile grappling match at the Hype FC event in Armenia on December 30th. Since his November Octagon victory over Dan Hooker, Tsarukyan has already competed in two other fights. Before their six-minute showdown, Tsarukyan and Magomedov exchanged remarks, intensifying the rivalry between these elite fighters. Originally, Tsarukyan was supposed to face a different competitor, according to a promotion announcement.

Interestingly, Tsarukyan was once approached by Hollywood actor Tom Hardy for a grappling match. Hype FC shared a message exchange revealing Hardy, a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and an experienced grappler who has trained with UFC’s Loner Kavanaugh, had to decline due to his film shooting schedule until March. Hardy thanked the promotion for the lucrative offer but was unable to commit to the event. Instead, Tsarukyan fought Shara Barrett.

Tsarukyan and his fans believe the UFC is not giving him the chances he deserves, particularly regarding a lightweight title shot, which could still be a long way off. Tsarukyan also expressed doubts that any of his UFC rivals, including lightweight champion Islam Makhachev, would be interested in grappling matches with him, pointing out that Makhachev’s lucrative UFC contract likely prevents such matches.

Fan Take: This news highlights the growing crossover appeal between MMA and grappling, as well as the potential for celebrity matchups to bring fresh excitement to the sport. Seeing a top UFC star like Tsarukyan engage in high-profile grappling matches, and even attracting offers from figures like Tom Hardy, could pave the way for more unique events that broaden fan interest in combat sports.
