Aleix Espargaro Initially Sidelined from Honda MotoGP Testing Role

Aleix Espargaro, Honda’s MotoGP test rider, revealed that he initially felt “a little confused” about his role during the first half of 2025, but by the year’s end, he found the experience to be “beautiful.” The three-time MotoGP winner concluded his full-time racing career at the close of 2024 and transitioned to Honda’s official test rider position.

Throughout 2025, Espargaro participated in several wildcard races and many private testing sessions, playing a significant part in enhancing Honda’s performance. However, due to scheduling conflicts, especially with his cycling commitments, he was only able to complete one test during the first few months of 2025.

As he grew more involved, Espargaro appreciated the role more, describing his year as two distinct phases. At the Valencia Grand Prix, he shared that the initial months were challenging due to his cycling focus and limited testing opportunities. But in the months leading up to the summer break, he engaged more in testing, communicated frequently with technical director Romano Albesiano, and visited races to support riders Joao Mir and Luca Marini, getting a deeper insight into Honda’s garage operations.

In the last three months, he described his experience as emotionally rewarding and enjoyable, forming strong connections and truly integrating into the HRC Factory team. He praised the team for their professionalism and shared how the role allows him to ride the bike, provide valuable feedback, learn, and assist the team.

Recently, Espargaro announced he would pause his professional cycling career with Riddle Trek to dedicate more time to his duties with Honda.
