Lewis Hamilton Takes the Wheel: Reveals Ferrari’s Exciting New SF-26 Shakedown

On Friday, Lewis Hamilton took the wheel of Ferrari’s new 2026 Formula 1 car for the very first time. Earlier that morning, Ferrari revealed the SF-26 through a brief video, and soon after, the seven-time world champion completed initial laps at the team’s Fiorano test circuit during a 200-kilometer filming day.

Next week, the SF-26 will travel to Barcelona to participate in the official F1 mass shakedown test scheduled from January 26 to 30. The 2026 Ferrari features a striking, retro-inspired design that combines the team’s classic red with significant white accents.

Hamilton aims to bounce back after a tough 2025 season, where he missed a podium finish for the first time in his career and was outperformed overall by teammate Charles Leclerc. Ferrari struggled last year, unable to secure a win and finishing fourth in the constructors’ championship—a disappointing result for the iconic Italian outfit.

Hamilton acknowledged the upcoming year will be critical, highlighting the technical demands placed on drivers, especially in managing energy and mastering new systems. “The 2026 season presents a huge challenge for everyone, likely the biggest regulation change of my career,” he remarked, emphasizing teamwork and car development as keys to success.

Leclerc echoed this sentiment, stressing that the new regulations require greater driver involvement early in the project, particularly in understanding and optimizing energy management and power unit performance. He described the upcoming season as an exciting but demanding test of intuition and data-driven decision making on track.

Fan Take:
Hamilton’s debut in the SF-26 signals a fresh and thrilling chapter for Ferrari fans and the wider F1 community. With significant rule changes shaking up the sport, this moment hints at the potential for renewed competition and strategic innovation that could redefine racing dynamics in 2026.
