Boston Celtics standout Jayson Tatum has missed the entire current season due to recovery from a torn Achilles tendon he sustained during last year’s playoffs. Recent reports indicate he might not return to play at all this season.

NBA insider Chris Hayes shared that Tatum is weighing the option to sit out the rest of the 2025-26 season, though no final choice has been made yet. The injury occurred to the NBA champion’s right Achilles tendon during Game 4 of the Eastern Conference semifinals against the New York Knicks on May 12, 2025.

Initially, the six-time All-Star was anticipated to make a comeback this year, providing a boost to the Celtics who are currently holding the third spot in the Eastern Conference. Hayes had previously suggested that Tatum was gearing up for a return and could be nearing it, but circumstances have since shifted.

Tatum secured a contract extension with Boston on July 6, 2024. Up to now, he has appeared in 585 NBA games with averages of 23.6 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 3.8 assists.
