  • Coventry eyeing striker signing amid title bid
        • Promotion rivals Coventry, Middlesbrough and Ipswich are keen to sign the ‘1-on-1 Devil’
  • “Extraordinary” Denki is in great condition

Coventry City are currently planning a summer move for the ‘exceptional’ 44-cap international, but there could be a scramble to sign him with their Championship promotion rivals.

Coventry eyeing striker signing amid title bid

Coventry could not have hoped for a better result with a 2-0 win over West Bromwich Albion on Saturday afternoon, but both of their main promotion rivals fell just short in their respective games.

Second-placed Middlesbrough were held to a 0-0 draw at home to Oxford United, while other promotion favorites fared worse, with losses to Millwall, Ipswich Town and Hull City.

The Sky Blues are currently in a strong position to progress to the Premier League, three points behind Boro and nine points ahead of third-placed Millwall, and Frank Lampard has been extremely impressed with his side’s performance at the Hawthorns.

Mr Lampard said: “I was happy with the professionalism of the whole game and the way we approached, two great goals that were of real quality in many ways. We were never threatened by them.”

However, if he is able to get his team into the top flight, the manager may need reinforcements in the summer transfer window, with a striker currently being identified as a target.

Coventry are planning a summer move for FC Cincinnati star Kevin Denke, but there could be competition for his signature with promotion rivals Middlesbrough also interested, according to reliable reporter Alan Nixon (via The 72).

Denky is open to a move to England in the summer and a deal could be completed for around £13 million, the same amount the MLS side paid to sign the centre-forward from Cercle Brugge in 2024.

The Tractor Boys are keen to win the race to sign a new forward.

The Togo international, who has 44 caps, finished the 2023-24 season as the Jupiler Pro League’s top scorer before impressing in the United States.

“Extraordinary” Denki is in great condition

Following his move to MLS, the striker was praised by his current club’s general manager Chris Albright, who said: “We are very pleased to welcome Kevin to FC Cincinnati. He is a talented young striker with an exceptional personality.”

Since then, the 25-year-old has continued to earn Albright’s trust with 20 goals and three assists in 39 games for FC Cincinnati, and he’s in great form.

Indeed, the African striker has made a strong start to the season with two goals and one assist in his opening two games, most recently finding the net in a 2-0 win over Atlanta United.

It would be a gamble for Coventry to sign Denky as he has yet to prove himself in Europe’s major leagues, but the FC Cincinnati star is certainly showing signs that he is ready for a move to the Premier League.
