Tottenham could be looking to bid farewell to key players this summer, with Inter Milan making their intentions clear.

Spurs battle for victory over Atletico Madrid with exciting performance

It was the kind of night that Tottenham supporters almost forgot such a possibility was possible.

With three goals and their first home win in two months, the noisy Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was finally filled with cheers.

Xavi Simmons was excellent throughout the night, with a curling shot in the second half and a calm penalty in stoppage time to round out the man-of-the-match show, along with a heroic performance from Archie Gray.

Randall Kolo Muani got the ball moving by heading a great cross from Matthijs Tell. Even as Julian Álvarez and David Hanko twice equalized for Atlético, the crowd dared to dream. This is because the Spurs side continued to counterattack.

We lost 7-5 on aggregate. They had too much work to do after the debacle in Madrid a week ago, but tonight’s 3-2 win ended an eight-game winless streak and gave them something just as valuable: a sliver of confidence.

Coach Igor Tudor praised the move, saying it was a “good direction,” and the players left to a standing ovation. Last night was really important for a club that has been in a slump since January.

But now all eyes are on what this season means for summer. And a development coming out of Italy this morning threatens to complicate life on N17 considerably.

Guglielmo Vicario confirms Tottenham’s departure from Inter

Guglielmo Vicario was solid between the sticks last night.

The Italian goalkeeper, signed from Empoli in 2023, has been one of Tottenham’s most consistent performances this season, despite some criticism, and made a decisive save from a deflection by Giuliano Simeone, at one point stabilizing the game at 1-0.

His presence, composure and best-day quality were clearly evident from the day he arrived, making what Italian outlet Calciomercato and journalist Pasquale Gallo are reporting all the more important.

According to reports, Inter Milan’s sporting director Piero Ausilio has traveled to London to begin formal discussions regarding Vicario.

What’s even more surprising is that Vicario himself has personally agreed to the move and is said to want to leave Tottenham this summer.

Interconnection is not new.

In 2023, when Vicario was still at Empoli, the Nerazzurri tracked him closely and came close to signing him before Spurs swooped in with all their might financially and quickly completed the deal.

Inter never forgot about him and now they are back.

The timing raises serious questions for Spurs. If the club were to be relegated (which is entirely possible with only eight Premier League games left and only a narrow gap to the bottom three), a fire sale would be inevitable.

But even if they survive, losing a talented goaltender like Vicario would damage what should be a rebuilding start to the summer. Finding a replacement of similar quality is not an easy task.

Some will point to last night’s victory as evidence that a corner has been turned under the Tudor government. The spirit, the fights, the atmosphere, everything is authentic.

But the Premier League series, which begins with a six-pointer at home to Nottingham Forest on Sunday, is a completely different kind of pressure.

Last night gave Spurs fans something to cheer about, but the Vicario news gave them something to worry about, even if he wasn’t perfect.
