Arsenal are reportedly among the clubs interested in a potential move for Borussia Dortmund attacking midfielder Julian Brandt.

The 29-year-old has had an impressive career in the Bundesliga with both Bayer Leverkusen and now Dortmund and is looking forward to seeing what he can do in the Premier League.

According to journalist Ekrem Konur, Arsenal are among Brandt’s suitors this summer, along with West Ham, Aston Villa, Roma and Fenerbahce.

See below for details. A decision will be made at the end of the season, which is not that far away now…

Brandt has 10 goals and four assists in his last 38 games for Dortmund, so he’s a very reasonable option for the club to consider as a free agent, although there are probably better options.

Julian Brandt’s move to Arsenal could work, but should not be a priority

The need for squads**

Overall, I gave Brandt a rating of 13/25. This is quite a medium strength.

It certainly makes some sense for the AFC to consider the German playmaker as an option to add depth, but even if he were cheap, he wouldn’t be a long-term option and there are certainly better players out there.

It is also debatable whether Arsenal need more attacking options when they already have the likes of Bukayo Saka, Leandro Trossard, Gabriel Martinelli, Ebelesi Eze and Noni Madueke competing in that position.

Arsenal also have an up-and-coming prodigy in Max Domann, but it would be a shame to see a young player’s progress thwarted by a player who is surely entering his best years after him.

Brunt could be an interesting market opportunity, but if Arsenal are to make a change in attack, it definitely needs to be someone who can meaningfully upgrade what they already have.
