On March 31, 1952, Ben Hogan invited his fellow Masters champions to a “stag dinner.”

How the wives of past champions made the Masters dinner

For years, the wives have been entertained by political fundraiser Bradford Freeman, who requires little persuasion to join him at the flamboyantly dressed table in Augusta National’s clubhouse dining room.

George W. Bush calls him Bradley. His friends named him “Fargo.” Stanford University claims he is the largest donor to football.

At Augusta National, the North Dakota native earned another title: host.

For years, Freeman anchored the dinner, which was held at the same time as the Champions Dinner and followed a little later. Due to health reasons, Freeman will not be attending the wives’ dinner this year. Frank Anderson will serve as host in his place.
