  • Why Chelsea sold Marc Cucurella to Real Madrid
  • Jorel Hato has impressed since signing for Chelsea

Chelsea have officially sanctioned the sale of Marc Cucurella to Real Madrid, but the big decision to part ways with the Spanish left-back appears to have been largely influenced by the rise of one of his Blues team-mates.

According to renowned X journalist Ben Jacobs, Cucurella’s high-profile move to Real Madrid came after the 27-year-old expressed a clear desire to return to Spain for personal and family reasons.

Why Chelsea sold Marc Cucurella to Real Madrid

Chelsea worked constructively to find the best solution for everyone involved and ultimately accepted a package worth €55 million plus €5 million in add-ons, a figure seen within the hierarchy as an incredibly high sum for a full-back.

However, external factors were not the only reason for the transfer. Jacobs revealed that young defender Jorel Hato’s rapid development over the course of last season was a major factor in Chelsea’s reinforcements allowing him to leave.

With a ready-made replacement showing immense potential on the pitch, the decision to sign the Spaniard turned out to be a much simpler choice, both in business and sport terms.

Jacobs posted the following update on X.

“Details about Marc Cucurella’s departure from Chelsea. We understand that Cucurella has expressed a desire to return to Spain for personal and family reasons. Chelsea has worked hard to find the best solution. The club has paid €55 million + 5 million euros is considered a high fee. The development of Jorel Hato last season was also a factor in sanctioning his departure.Chelsea now want to add at least two starting-level players who can play immediately in the Premier League.

The 20-year-old Dutch international was initially signed as a promising prospect and took advantage of the opportunity last season, showing a tactical maturity and poise that belies his age.

His outstanding performance as a substitute on the left side of defence, reassured the club that the position was a safe one.

Cucurella’s huge €60 million package has been made official and Stamford Bridge bosses are ready to reinvest the funds immediately.

Chelsea are currently looking to add at least two Premier League-ready starting-level players to strengthen their squad.

Thanks to Hato’s rapid development, the Blues have managed to secure a big transfer fee while maintaining full confidence in their defensive depth heading into the new season.
