  • Ben Jacobs talks about Morgan Rodgers’ move to Arsenal
  • Morgan Rogers’ contract won’t be delayed even at the World Cup

Arsenal have been given some very positive transfer news for Morgan Rodgers and hope that the deal is not delayed due to the 2026 World Cup.

Rodgers is the Gunners’ top target but is currently playing for England at the World Cup, but manager Ben Jacobs has reported that Thomas Tuchel has no problem with players undergoing medical checks while on international duty.

In an interview with Latte Firm, Jacobs provided an update on Arsenal’s signing of Rodgers and revealed some interesting information about the Aston Villa star’s preferences.

Rodgers seems content to play as either a winger or a No. 10 at his next club, but while he has no strong preference either way, Jacobs seems generally confident the 23-year-old will head to the Emirates Stadium…

Ben Jacobs talks about Morgan Rodgers’ move to Arsenal

“I expect Arsenal to sign Morgan Rodgers. He is Arsenal’s biggest target on the left wing and/or as a number 10,” Jacobs said.

“My information is that Rodgers has no preference as to whether he signs as a left-winger or as a number 10. Arsenal are expected to make a bid and this could move quickly.”

“Keep in mind that Thomas Tuchel is perfectly happy for his players to undergo medical checks while on England duty. That may be the case with Elliott Anderson and Manchester City as well. But Arsenal probably won’t be in as much of a hurry as Aston Villa.”

“Despite having Champions League football, Aston Villa are considering a major sale to make ends meet. When Rodgers extended his contract last year, there was an understanding that he could leave this summer for a starting fee of £80 million.”

“It’s not a release clause or a gentleman’s understanding, but Villa have said they won’t unreasonably stand in his way. I’m still hearing that the deal will start at £80 million, which I’m not saying is the number that will secure a move, but that’s the start of talks with Aston Villa. I think it’s very likely that this deal will happen.”

Morgan Rogers’ contract won’t be delayed even at the World Cup

Arsenal fans will also be happy to hear that Rodgers will be able to undergo a medical during his World Cup absence.

The Premier League champions will no doubt want to get this big deal done as quickly as possible to avoid involvement from other clubs, and Rodgers is sure to be a player to watch after two successive excellent seasons at Villa Park.

Despite the England international scoring double-digit goals and assists again in 2025/26 and winning the title, it’s clear he could improve this Arsenal team in the one area where they perhaps struggled the most.

Mikel Arteta’s side have struggled at times in the final third, but a player like Rodgers could provide a bit more inspiration and threaten goal more than the erratic Martin Odegaard.

If the AFC can pull this off, it would be exactly the type of deal that could take this team to another level next season. Arteta’s team once again lacked attacking quality in their final defeat against PSG, narrowly missing out on Champions League qualification.
