Manchester United continue to be linked with a move for Maxi Aavjo from Sporting CP.

According to a report by SportWitness, they are interested in signing the 26-year-old left-back and have sent scouts to monitor his performance in Uruguay’s match against Cape Verde.

It will be interesting to see if Manchester United respond to their interest and make an offer to sign the player after the World Cup. They need a quality left-back, especially with Luke Shaw in his 30s.

Araujo has also been linked with a move to Arsenal.

Maxi Araujo is in great form

The South American defender could be a great addition. He was a key player for the Portuguese club last season and showed his quality in the UEFA Champions League. He has the technical attributes to succeed in the Premier League and could be an important player for Manchester United next season.

The defender’s contract has an €80 million release clause and the Portuguese club will need to make reasonable demands to make the move happen. Manchester United are unlikely to pay €80m for a left-back. There is no doubt that he is a quality player and it remains to be seen whether the two clubs can negotiate a reasonable contract.

Araujo may consider a move

The opportunity to play for Manchester United could be an exciting one for the Uruguayan international. It would be a step up in his career and an opportunity to test himself in England. He is at the peak of his career and may be the perfect time to take on a new challenge.

The defender has scored two goals and provided one assist at the World Cup so far and is thought to be on the radar of Chelsea and Tottenham. It remains to be seen where he will end up.
