Ornstein says England star was ‘rewarded’ to start in tonight’s match against Argentina in an unfamiliar role

England manager Thomas Tuchel will reportedly start Morgan Rodgers on the right wing in tonight’s World Cup semi-final against Argentina.

This is a slightly unfamiliar role for him, as Aston Villa’s attacking midfielders usually play on the left or in the middle, but he is also good enough to contribute in almost any attacking role.

Read below for the latest from David Ornstein on England’s team selection for tonight’s big game. A journalist posted on X that Tuchel is looking to reward the influence he had on the bench in the win over Norway in the final match…

“Morgan Rodgers is expected to start on the right wing for England.” #FIFAWorldCup Semi-finals… The 23-year-old Aston Villa forward will have a chance to be rewarded for his good form coming off the bench against Norway. #AVFC + under Thomas Tuchel,” Ornstein said.

In fact, something needed to change on the right flank, as Bukayo Saka is not 100% fit and Noni Maduke has not been particularly convincing in this tournament, although he has started in many games.

Can England get past Argentina?

Tuchel will need to get his squad right tonight ahead of what some are calling the biggest match since the 1966 World Cup final victory.

England have not reached a World Cup final since their only victory 60 years ago, so winning would be a huge achievement.

Argentina are the current champions so they will probably be the favorites to win tonight, especially since Lionel Messi has been in very good form so far in this year’s competition.

England’s key players are undoubtedly Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham, who both excelled with the Three Lions, but a young top talent like Rodgers could cause problems for Argentina.
