LIV Golf’s 2026 season kicks off in the UK this week. It is the last international tournament before the final three scheduled for August in the United States. “Planned” is the key word as LIV Golf faces an uncertain future after losing a loan from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund.
There is no guarantee that all three events will take place as planned.
On Wednesday, Creeks GC captain Martin Kaymer told Today’s Golfer’s Ben Parsons that based on the limited information the team captains had at the meeting, there was a “very high probability” that the season finale at Michigan would be canceled, giving a “5% chance” that it would take place.
“We know it’s most likely happening in Indianapolis,” Keimer added. “There were talks yesterday. Michigan, that’s very unlikely. So basically what we already knew. I think that’s why it was a captain’s meeting instead of a players’ meeting, because they couldn’t give us more than they had before.”
Kaymer and his players, like everyone else, seem to be in the dark about LIV Golf’s financing and future plans. Keimer cited speculation that the league could turn the Indianapolis tournament into a team championship, but was concerned about losing a second individual tournament after the New Orleans tournament was already canceled earlier this season.
“Obviously we’re disappointed,” Kaymer said. “Actually, I heard yesterday on the Golf Channel that there was a possibility that Indianapolis instead of Michigan would be a team event. I don’t know about that. I think it’s a shame that the individual events will be further reduced. On the other hand, if there were no team events, how would you want your team to win all season? I have to be honest. The whole season has been a bit… a lot has happened. Well, New Orleans was canceled. I think it’s important to just finish the season and hopefully start planning for 2027.”

So far, it looks like the 2026 LIV golf calendar has three, not four, events scheduled, including this week’s UK event. The schedule and structure for 2027 is anyone’s guess as CEO Scott O’Neal desperately tries to rebuild the league’s finances after losing key backers.
