Tottenham have reportedly been eyeing Manchester United misfit Marcus Rashford for some time, but the Red Devils are unwilling to sell him to their Premier League rivals.
Rashford spent last season on loan at Barcelona, where he scored 14 goals and provided 10 assists in all competitions.
It may be a little surprising that Barca didn’t try to keep the England international after that, but that seems to be what happened, as they signed other attacking players instead.
According to iNews, there is still uncertainty over Rashford’s future, with Spurs being one of his main suitors.
Why Marcus Rashford’s move to Tottenham hasn’t happened yet
According to the newspaper, Tottenham have been preparing a £40 million transfer fee for Rashford since last month, but the problem appears to be that Man United do not want the 28-year-old to move to another English club.

Arsenal and Chelsea have also been mentioned as candidates for Rashford, but it is understandable that United do not want to risk seeing Rashford return to his best form at a club they directly compete against.
This is especially a blow to the Spurs. Spurs are in need of a strong transfer window after back-to-back finishes in the Premier League in 17th place and will certainly need to spend big to turn things around.
We’ve already seen the North Londoners bring in exciting talents in Sandro Tonali, Matheus Fernandes and Jan Paul van Hekke so far this summer, and Rashford could be a great addition to give them something different up front.

Rashford, who can play both wide and as a striker, could quickly become one of the team’s best forwards, giving Roberto De Zerbi real hope of building something promising at Tottenham.
What’s next for Marcus Rashford?
It will be interesting to see how this saga develops, as iNews reports that United still want to take Rashford’s high salary off the books.
It’s certainly possible that MUFC will have to soften its stance on selling Rashford to a Premier League rival if overseas clubs don’t make an offer for him soon.
So far, Rashford doesn’t seem to want to move to Turkey, although reports have mentioned interest from Turkish clubs, perhaps making his options look a bit limited.
While this is bad news for United, it could be a silver lining for Spurs and other teams in the coming weeks.
