  • Manchester City manager denies concerns over 115 charges
  • Questions about fees persist

A new era at Manchester City has begun with Enzo Maresca refusing to be distracted by the long-running Premier League financial problems plaguing the club.

The Italian returned to the Etihad this summer to replace Josep Guardiola, inheriting not only a team challenging for the title, but also the questions that have dogged City since the charges were announced in February 2023.

The case, still widely known as the “115 charges,” concerns several seasons of alleged violations of financial regulations.

City deny any wrongdoing, but the continuing judgments create uncertainty over the club’s future.

Maresca insists the situation has not influenced his approach.

Maresca was asked about the charges in his first press conference as Man City manager and made it clear he was focused on football rather than legal speculation.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano, he said:

“One thing I can say is, I was here three years ago during the Treble season and I said the same thing about this. Three years later, it’s still the same.”

“Nothing happened.”

“Personally, I have no concerns.”

His response reflects the city’s position throughout the process that business will continue as usual until the independent commission makes a decision.

Maresca also has first-hand experience of the environment, having worked on Guardiola’s staff during the treble-winning 2022/23 season.

Questions about fees persist

While the manager’s confidence is understandable, broader issues remain unresolved.

talkSPORT reports that the hearing concluded in December 2024, but a verdict has not yet been published.

The case was initially said to involve 115 alleged violations, but has now been widely reported to total 130. The city continues to deny all charges.

Mr. Maresca is right not to allow his first weeks in office to be dominated by legal proceedings outside of his control. His responsibility is to prepare the team, manage the team and respond only when decisions are made.

However, saying “nothing happened” doesn’t make the anxiety go away.

The postponement itself has become a hot topic, and the new manager, contract, and trophies will continue to be discussed in parallel with this incident.

Maresca can keep his cool, but Man City cannot fully begin their post-Guardiola chapter until the verdict is finally clear.
