Joe Gomez injured

The experienced Liverpool defender has been forced to sit out due to injury and will be extremely disappointed in the start of the new season. Gomez has been a very useful player for Liverpool over the years, but has been plagued by lingering injury problems since joining the club from Charlton Athletic.

The Telegraph’s Dominic King wrote of X:Joe Gomez’s worst start to preseason. He was substituted in the seventh minute due to injury. It doesn’t seem to be anything serious and no precautions can be taken, but it’s still really disappointing. Kostas Tsimikas is currently the captain.“

There is no doubt that he is a quality player and he has proven that over the years. He is an exceptional defender and is equally good on the ball. When fit and active, Gomez is undoubtedly one of the best defenders in the Premier League. However, Liverpool have not been able to get the most out of him due to lingering injury problems.

Will Liverpool let Gomez leave?

The defender has been heavily linked with leaving the club this summer, and it remains to be seen whether Liverpool are prepared to let him leave. His recent injury will only add to his dismal appearance record for the club.

Today’s injury does not appear to be particularly serious and his substitution is probably just a precautionary measure, but it confirms that Liverpool cannot rely on him for the upcoming season and need more depth in central defence.

With Jeremy Jacquet replacing Ibrahima Konate, Liverpool should consider investing in a versatile defender who can cover not only central defence, but also at full-back.
