Pedro Acosta, currently out of contention for the MotoGP championship, revealed that he is “taking more risks” as he aims for his first MotoGP race win before his move from KTM. The young Spanish rider, who will partner with Marc Marquez at the factory Ducati team next season, recently finished second behind Marquez at the Aragon race.
Having ended a Sprint race victory drought at the Buriram opener, Acosta has now secured eight second-place finishes in premier-class events. Heading into this weekend’s race at Misano, he stands sixth in the world championship, trailing the leader Jorge Martin by 67 points and sitting 43 points behind third-placed Marco Bezzecchi.
Acosta explained from Misano on Thursday, “We aren’t changing our approach; we’re simply taking more risks. With nothing to lose, we’re trying different bike settings, adjusting up and down to find the right balance. I’m happy with how we’re pushing the limits. I can also recognize when something isn’t working and step back if needed. I have a long winter to prepare for 2027, but right now, until the last day of the year, I’m focused on bringing the best results for KTM.”
That best outcome, naturally, is a race victory. Acosta emphasized, “If I don’t win, it won’t be for lack of effort. I’m making a big difference compared to the other KTM riders, regularly finishing in the top five and pushing KTM to improve. However, we have to acknowledge that Aprilia and Ducati hold a lead, and Honda is very competitive right now. We’re in a cluster with Honda and Yamaha, so we have to be realistic.”
Hoping to strike a win soon, Acosta identified upcoming flyaway races as potential opportunities: “We’re generally fast in Japan, and Asia overall is competitive for us—except for Phillip Island, where I’ve struggled. I’m pleased with our improved reliability and lack of mechanical issues. That’s the first step, and now it’s time to work on performance.”
Last year at Misano, Acosta finished fifth in the Sprint race but was forced to retire from the main race after a broken chain.
