Tonight marked her first title defense, where she faced off against Nia Jax. The match itself felt somewhat awkward at times, and the finish wasn’t the cleanest, but this aligned with what I had anticipated from Green’s reign—and honestly, I didn’t mind it. It was great to see Green stepping into the ring to defend the title, especially in front of an enthusiastic crowd in Mexico City that clearly supported her.
Before the match, Jax delivered a compelling backstage promo, warning that while she usually breaks careers by injuring faces, this time she planned to end Green’s career instead. The nod to Green’s ongoing struggle with an orbital bone injury—requiring her to wear a sparkly protective face mask—added depth to the storyline.
“The Irresistible Force” controlled much of the bout, as expected, yet Green wasn’t outmatched; she showcased some resilient moments and absorbed Jax’s heavy-hitting offense admirably. Notably, Jax threw Green over the commentary table and onto the ring apron with a somersault, but Green kept bouncing back for more.
Ringside distractions from Lash Legend and Tiffany Stratton were present but limited to a single impactful moment, which was a welcome change. Jax removed Green’s mask and sent her outside the ring just as Legend delivered a powerful right hand—though Stratton took the hit meant for Green after she was moved out of the way. This sets up potential future tension, hinting at a possible heel turn for Stratton against the champion.
Green managed to fend off Legend, avoided Jax’s Annihilator finisher, and replaced her medically required face mask as she executed the Unprettier on Jax. While the spot was far from flawless, it was clear what they were aiming for, and it was probably the best way for Green to attempt this move on a larger opponent like Jax. Personally, I hope we don’t see Green face Jax again soon and instead get a program between Green and Stratton.
Even though the match wasn’t technically impressive, Mexico City proved to be a fitting venue for Green’s first title defense. It’s hopeful that Green will soon fully recover and engage in more competitive feuds, allowing for higher-quality matches. Despite my critiques, I genuinely appreciated this moment as the official start of Green’s championship reign.
