Dominik Mysterio admitted he never expected his sister, Aalyah Mysterio, to pursue wrestling since she seemed to be the sensible one in the family. Aalyah, who has been training at the WWE Performance Center, surprised many as she holds a degree in human biology from the University of California San Diego, which she completed in July 2025. Dominik, speaking to Fernando Ramirez of Compas On The Beat, stayed in character during the interview, portraying himself as the wronged party and their father as absent.
He acknowledged Aalyah’s entrance into wrestling saying, “Technically she’s still my sister, but she’ll have her chance. I never thought she’d join because she’s the smart one with a degree and all. Yet, she’s out there at the Performance Center doing her thing.” Dominik finished with a sly remark, “There are two Mysterios in WWE—choose the right one. You know how this story unfolds.”
Aalyah’s path has been steady. She started training at the Dungeon 2.0 in September 2025 under the guidance of Natalya, TJ Wilson, and Rey Mysterio himself, marking her first in-ring experience after persistent requests. She then attended the WWE Performance Center for one day in October, followed by an intensive two-week full-time training block in February. Rey noted on The Undertaker’s Six Feet Under podcast that she enjoyed both experiences and is preparing to make a name for herself. However, he also emphasized there is no pressure on her to continue wrestling if it doesn’t feel right.
“Maybe she’s there for a year and then says, ‘Dad, I thought this was for me, but it’s not,’” Rey explained. “There’s no need to feel pressured. It has to come from within; she has to feel that passion.” Rey admitted that neither child’s decision to wrestle was something he foresaw. Nevertheless, he hopes to build on the legacy he started with Dominik as the first father-son WWE Tag Team Champions and teased what possibilities might lie ahead with Aalyah.
While WWE has yet to officially announce a signing, PWInsider reported back in July that Aalyah was expected to start at the Performance Center around that time. Friends celebrated this with a cake reading “Florida’s about to get 619’d,” signaling WWE now has a new challenge to handle. PWInsider later confirmed she began full-time training and appears on WWE’s internal roster under her real name, Aalyah Gutierrez. She has also been seen training alongside other second-generation wrestlers like Marie Malenko and Lexis King.
Dominik echoed similar sentiments about Aalyah on The Ariel Helwani Show in July, joking that she’s been a “problem” for their parents for over two decades and it’s now WWE’s turn to manage her. He hopes she listens to him more than their father, noting that he too was once a “problem” in the family.
Aalyah has appeared on WWE television previously but without wrestling, such as during a storyline romance with Buddy Murphy amid the Mysterios’ feud with Seth Rollins in 2020’s ThunderDome era. She also showed up at WrestleMania 39 during the Rey vs. Dominik storyline.
An intriguing storyline has already been proposed: The Undertaker, who is AAA’s Head of Creative, suggested a potential feud featuring Rey and Aalyah teaming up against Liv Morgan and Dominik during the same podcast where Rey provided her update.
This weekend’s TripleMania 34 event features both Rey and Dominik—Rey will face Omos in Nevada with high stakes on the line, while Dominik defends the AAA Mega Championship in Mexico City against El Grande Americano, who also serves as Rey’s second in the earlier match.
