Arman Tsarukyan recently shared insights into his strategy for his upcoming fight.
This weekend, Tsarukyan is set to face Brazilian knockout specialist Mauricio Ruffy in the co-main event at UFC 331. Understanding the stakes, the Armenian fighter knows a convincing victory is essential to catch the UFC’s attention and secure his shot at the 155-pound title.
A win by decision or a lackluster performance might not be enough to impress UFC officials, so Tsarukyan plans to replicate the approach he used in his last fight. During an interview with Michael Bisping, he stated:
“They already know what I’m going to do. You know what the wrestler does, like, anyone can watch my fights and see what I’m about. Just look at my fight with Dan Hooker. It’s going to be a similar game plan.”

Tsarukyan’s previous bout was against Dan Hooker at UFC Qatar in 2025, where he inflicted damage and finished with a second-round arm-triangle choke submission.
Facing a dangerous striker like Ruffy, Tsarukyan intends to lean on his strong grappling skills to bring the fight to the ground and pursue a submission victory.

Tsarukyan believes that earning a finish in this fight could propel him ahead of contenders Ilia Topuria and Paddy Pimblett in the race for the lightweight title. He expressed his intentions clearly:
“I’m going to look for the finish and make a statement.”

If Tsarukyan scores a decisive win at UFC 331, he is likely to face new lightweight champion Justin Gaethje in early 2027, unless the UFC opts for a title rematch involving Ilia Topuria.
At 29 years old, Tsarukyan also recognizes the importance of maintaining composure during fight week, especially at the weigh-ins. Known by his nickname “Batman,” he understands that any altercation or incident could jeopardize his chance at fighting for the belt once again.
