Isobel Goodwin has announced that the London City Lionesses are aiming for a spot in the Champions League within this season’s Women’s Super League.
Goodwin scored twice in quick succession during Saturday’s match, contributing to a decisive 4-1 victory over Charlton Athletic, with additional goals from Jana Fernandez and Nicole Anyomi.
The Lionesses showcased an impressive performance, generating 4.13 expected goals (xG) from 26 shots, while limiting Charlton to just 0.59 xG from six attempts.
This win signifies a rebound for London City, who previously suffered a loss to West Ham in their second match of the 2026-27 season and are set to face Brighton next.
In an interview with BBC Two, Goodwin expressed, “It feels great to score, especially after last week. We’re really pleased with this significant win.”
“All we focused on was responding, and we just wanted to find the net. This was the reaction we needed to bounce back, and it boosts our confidence going forward. There’s a crucial match ahead, where we aim to secure three points,” she added.
“While I want to score as many goals as possible, this is a team sport. Our goal is to place as high as we can and ideally make it to the Champions League.”

“I’m relishing the competitions and duels; each game here is so unique,” Putellas stated in her interview with BBC Two. “I’m really enjoying it; we just need to pinpoint weaknesses to score and win.”
