Although Mohamed Moubarak’s Reza went unsold as an RNA at the Ocala Breeders’ 2-year-olds-in-training sale in April, he made a striking impression by dominating in his racing debut on Saturday. The Tale of Silence gelding, who failed to reach his $120,000 reserve price, showcased his true value with an eight-length triumph in a five-furlong maiden special weight race on the Tapeta surface.
Trainer Tareq Moubarak, the owner’s son, explained, “He breezed a 9-and-4 at the sale. My dad and I tried to pinhook him, but we didn’t get the offer we expected, so we brought him back to the barn. He has been training well and just needed some time after the sale. He’s always displayed quickness.”
Reza ($17.40) conserved energy at the rear of a five-horse field until launching a wide rally on the far turn under Leonel Reyes. He surged past the odds-on favorite, Coralline, in mid-stretch, pulling away effortlessly for an impressive victory.
This Kentucky-bred, who was purchased for $22,000 as a yearling at the 2025 Keeneland September sale, completed the five-furlong contest in 56.75 seconds after the race was switched from turf.
“To be honest, I wanted him to run on turf, but my dad insisted we keep him on the Tapeta, and it worked out well,” added Moubarak.
Reza’s sire, Tale of Silence, a $2,500 Canadian stud in Ontario bred by Charles Fipke, is a Grade 3 winner who placed second in the 2019 Gulfstream Mile (G2). The colt’s dam, Pleasant Orb, a daughter of Orb also bred by Fipke, raced successfully at Gulfstream, including a runner-up finish in the Grade 1 Acorn Stakes before retiring.
The Moubarak family will consider their next steps for Reza carefully.
In other Gulfstream action, Summer Wind Equine’s Scottish Lass, a McKinzie filly, also won at first asking in a six-furlong maiden special weight race for fillies. The favorite surged late to score by 1¾ lengths under Rasheed Hughes, clocking the race in 1:12.19. Trainer Hugh McMahon, who secured two wins last Sunday, added two more victories on Saturday. He guided Biker Baley ($3.80), the first winner for Toledo, to a commanding triumph in the fourth race and later captured the finale with Boujee Bubblez ($7) ridden by Charlie Marquez.

Jockey Richard Eramia, who came to North America in 2005 from Uruguay and won his first race at Remington Park in 2006 aboard Crowning Victory for trainer Chris Hartman, celebrated his 600th career win at Remington on Friday night.
Eramia captured Race 3 riding Cat Gamer, trained by Justin Evans, who is part of a close-knit group of friends with the Hartman family. Cat Gamer, a 7-year-old gelding by Cat Burglar, won the six-and-a-half furlong main-track race by 2 ¼ lengths at 4-1 odds, finishing in 1:17.51 and paying $10.40 to win.
