Regaled, representing Ribble Farms, Hoolie Racing, and Kemp Racing Stable, is aiming to become the eighth horse to win the $500,000 Grade 3 Delaware Handicap twice this Saturday. The 89th running of this 1 ⅛-mile race, designed for fillies and mares, features a competitive group of 11 contenders.
The Delaware Handicap’s list of dual winners includes notable horses like Elate (2018, 2019), Royal Delta (2012, 2013), Nastique (1988, 1989), Susan’s Girl (1973, 1975), Blessing Angelica (1971, 1972), Obeah (1969, 1970), and Endine (1958, 1959).
Part of the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Dozen Bonus Series, the Delaware Handicap offers incentives toward the $2 million Longines Breeders’ Cup Distaff scheduled for October 31 at Keeneland. The top three finishers will earn credits on their Distaff entry fees, with $30,000 going to the winner, $15,000 to second place, and $7,500 to third.
Regaled captured last year’s Delaware Handicap by a commanding 6 ¼ lengths and later came in third at the Longines Breeders’ Cup Distaff at Del Mar. This 5-year-old filly by Mohaymen, trained by D. Whitworth Beckman, has yet to win in 2026 but recently placed second in both the Grade 2 Azeri Stakes and Grade 2 Fleur de Lis at Churchill Downs. Bred in Kentucky, Regaled boasts a record of four wins, four seconds, and four third-place finishes from 23 starts, earning nearly $1 million.
Interestingly, Regaled’s top performances, including last year’s Delaware Handicap win and her runner-up finishes this year, have come on muddy or sloppy tracks—a condition her team hopes to see again this Saturday.
“We’ve learned she’s pace-dependent and thrives on off-track surfaces, so everything aligned perfectly for her in last year’s Delaware Handicap,” said trainer Beckman. “The Breeders’ Cup pace was relatively fast, and even though the track did not play to her strengths, she still showed well.”
Regaled has also demonstrated a strong affinity for Delaware Park’s main track, having won the Delaware Handicap previously and placing third in this year’s Grade 3 Delaware Oaks.
“She’s progressing well as the year continues, much like last year,” Beckman added. “Her recent workouts have been sharp. We’re hopeful everything falls into place as it did before, particularly since she clearly likes Delaware.”
This year’s Delaware Handicap field is the largest since 2005, with eleven starters slated for the race, which will close out the card as the tenth race around 5:45 p.m.
If contenders like Eunomia, winner of the Grade 1 Clement Hirsch Stakes at Del Mar, or Margie’s Intention, victor of last year’s Grade 2 Black-Eyed Susan at Pimlico, enter the race, the purse will increase to $600,000. The race conditions specify that if a Grade 1 or 2 winner from 2025 or 2026 competes, the total prize money jumps, with $330,000 to the winner and scaled amounts to other top finishers.
