A filly from the inaugural crop of champion Arcangelo fetched the highest price during Friday’s 11th session of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale, selling for $170,000 to agent Donato Lanni. The filly, consigned by Penn Sales on behalf of Hannah Smith, hails from a distinguished lineage that includes Grade 2 winner California Angel, Grade 3 winner Cool Kiss, and several stakes winners such as Bashful Charmer and Cool Spell. Her dam is Mo’s Love, a victorious mare by Uncle Mo.
Lanni emerged as the top buyer of the session with this purchase. On Friday, with only one day left in the September Sale, 257 yearlings sold for a total of $6,086,500. The average price was $23,683, with a median of $17,000. While the gross was down nearly 10% compared to last year’s 11th session—when 301 horses brought in $6.73 million—the average price rose by nearly 6%, and the median increased by over 13%.
Overall, since the sale began on September 14, Keeneland has sold 2,595 horses for a combined $531,986,000. This represents a 4.95% increase in total sales over the same period last year, with the average price jumping by 8.1% to $205,004 and the median climbing 5.26% to $100,000.
Among other notable sales on Friday, Zalimkhan Koilakaev purchased a colt from the first crop of Grade 2 winner Pappacap for $120,000. This colt, by Distorted Humor mare Red River Hawk and linked to prominent Grade 2 and Group-level winners, was consigned by Paramount Sales. III Beautys Thoroughbred acquired a Connect colt out of the First Samurai mare Beverly’s Song for $105,000; he is related to multiple graded winners. Taproot Bloodstock bought Admirer, a Bolt d’Oro colt connected to the family of leading sire and Grade 2 winner Pulpit, for $100,000. Taylor Made Sales Agency led consignors with 29 yearlings sold totaling $711,000.
