Heimir Hallgrimsson acknowledged that many of his Republic of Ireland players were “not at their best” following a 1-0 loss to Kosovo in their Nations League debut.

Kosovo could have secured an even more convincing victory had it not been for Caoimhin Kelleher, who made five crucial saves during the match.
Kelleher has only recorded more saves in a Nations League match against England in September 2024, highlighting Kosovo’s dominance in this encounter.
Kosovo has now triumphed in seven of their last eight Nations League matches, with one loss, and they have won their last four games in a row, marking their longest winning streak in this competition.
The Republic of Ireland will face Israel in home and away matches, along with a home game against Austria. Hallgrimsson contended that Kosovo has a strong chance of winning the group.
“I believe Kosovo has a solid chance to top this group,” he stated. “Austria is considered the favorite, given their higher FIFA ranking.”
The lone silver lining for Hallgrimsson was that none of his players sustained injuries, and he does not anticipate any withdrawals for the remaining three fixtures.
“Overall, I’m quite disappointed with our performance,” Hallgrimsson expressed. “A draw would have been acceptable, but the quality of play was not what we had hoped for. Individually and collectively, we lacked initiative.”
