During Wednesday’s extended segment of “AEW Dynamite” and “AEW Collision,” it was announced that TBS Champion Persephone will defend her title in an open challenge at AEW All Out this Saturday. A recent report reveals that this open challenge will be answered by a debuting face wrestler in AEW.
Self Made on X (formerly known as Twitter) reported on Friday that former WWE NXT UK and TNA competitor Dani Luna will step up to challenge for the TBS Championship. Luna left TNA in April, and on September 16, Fightful Select shared that she was expected to sign with AEW if she hadn’t already done so.
Later on Friday, Fightful confirmed Dani Luna had officially signed with AEW, noting that the agreement was reached more than a month ago. There had been speculation about the British star’s arrival before AEW All In London, but Luna did not debut during any recent UK events hosted by AEW.
Dani Luna was released from TNA after a three-year tenure, where she was a two-time TNA Knockouts World Tag Team Champion. After leaving TNA, she wrestled on the independent circuit and took time during the summer to recover from some lingering injuries.
When Persephone issued the open challenge, she clarified that Thunder Rosa and Hyan were unavailable to answer due to a scheduled tag team match alongside Britt Baker in Baker’s hometown of Pittsburgh on “Dynamite.” Additionally, Maya World cannot compete either, as she is currently sidelined, a fact confirmed by a Friday report from Wrestling Observer.
