Jess Fishlock netted two goals, surpassing Megan Rapinoe’s Seattle Reign career goal record, in the team’s 2-0 victory over the Boston Legacy on Friday evening.
Fishlock’s first goal came in the 23rd minute, where she intercepted the ball and struck from long range, marking her 51st career goal. She broke Rapinoe’s record with her 52nd goal, another impressive long-range shot, in the 64th minute.
Since the inaugural season of the NWSL in 2013, Fishlock has been a key player for the Reign (12-10-4).
Reign goalkeeper Claudia Dickey showcased her skills with seven saves, achieving her seventh clean sheet of the season. This marks the fifth shutout victory for the Reign at Seattle’s Lumen Field.
The loss for Boston (7-14-5) marked the first time the team failed to score in 13 matches, eliminating them from playoff consideration.
With this victory, the Reign have moved up to sixth place in the NWSL standings with four games remaining.
In other National Women’s Soccer League action on Friday, Gotham FC defeated the Chicago Stars 3-1, and the San Diego Wave secured a 2-0 victory over Racing Louisville.
For Gotham, Jaedyn Shaw scored two goals, and Sam Kerr added another, helping the top-ranked team (16-4-6) overcome the already eliminated Stars. Kerr assisted Shaw for the opening goal in the ninth minute, then scored on a header in the 50th minute.
Shaw received a pass from Rose Lavelle in the 65th minute to score Gotham’s final goal. Chicago’s only goal came from Tessa Dellarose in the 87th minute, marking their fifth consecutive loss (5-19-2).
The Wave earned their win with goals from Gia Corley and Ludmila. Corley capitalized on a well-placed long ball in the 27th minute, while Ludmila scored off a rebound in the 49th minute to extend the lead.
Wave goalkeeper Sandra Paños registered one save for her third clean sheet of the season. Following a six-match losing streak, Racing Louisville (7-17-2) was also eliminated from playoff contention, while the Wave now sits in second place behind Gotham.
