On Monday afternoon, NASCAR announced that neither Ryan Blaney nor Carson Hocevar will face penalties related to their post-race altercation after Saturday night’s Bristol Night Race. However, the organization will continue to review the footage to decide if any crew members who participated in the incident should be disciplined.
NASCAR CEO Steve O’Donnell explained this stance during an appearance on Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hour show, noting that while NASCAR does not promote fighting, it recognizes and respects the passion drivers show. “If drivers want to settle matters between themselves, that’s their choice,” O’Donnell said. “Blaney displayed his intensity and fire, so there won’t be any penalties from us for the altercation. We will monitor the situation moving forward, but no post-race penalties are planned.”
O’Donnell emphasized that physical confrontations between drivers are preferable to using their cars aggressively on the track, citing past incidents like the Talladega clash involving Brad Keselowski and Carl Edwards. He also expressed concern over crew members, many of whom have competitive sports backgrounds like football, intervening in these disputes.
Blaney appeared on the show Actions Detrimental Monday, sharing his perspective, showing some remorse, and admitting, “I got my ass kicked.”
