The Miami Dolphins are expected to be without one of their most explosive playmakers for the remainder of 2026 after a 24-10 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, according to NFL Network, which reports that De’Von Achane suffered a torn ACL in Week 3.
Dolphins head coach Jeff Hafley gave a bleak update Sunday, telling reporters that the outlook on Achane’s knee “does not sound optimistic,” per NFL Network.
Achane left the Chiefs’ Week 3 home opener in the first quarter after an awkward tackle by Kansas City safety Alohi Gilman on an 11-yard run. He was initially listed as questionable to return, was taken to the blue medical tent for evaluation, and ultimately was ruled out for the rest of the game.
The 2023 third-round selection had just 17 yards on three carries before the injury; second-year running back Ollie Gordon took over as Miami’s primary ball-carrier against Kansas City.
Achane had emerged as the focal point of the Dolphins’ offense amid their roster rebuild. This knee problem isn’t new—he missed five games as a rookie in 2023 because of a knee injury.
Through Sunday, Achane had 31 carries for 110 rushing yards on the season, while the rest of the Miami backfield combined for 16 carries for 66 yards. He signed a four-year, $64 million extension this offseason after setting career highs last year with 1,350 rushing yards and 1,838 yards from scrimmage.
Miami will travel to face the Minnesota Vikings in Week 4.
Fan take: Achane’s injury is a major blow to a Dolphins offense that leaned heavily on his explosiveness, and it could force Miami to reshape its game plan and running back usage for the rest of the season. For the NFL, it’s a reminder of how quickly injuries can alter a team’s trajectory and the value of depth at skill positions.
