How Rangers wasted £4.7m on a worse signing than Bojan Miovski

Glasgow Rangers have finally found their feet under Derek McInnes with six wins and five clean sheets in their last six matches in all competitions.

The Light Blues have made too many mistakes with managerial appointments and recruitment decisions in recent years, having gone almost two years without a trophy.

Some of the club’s summer signings are already showing that they can be better than what came before them, such as the likes of Olwethu Makhanya, Ivor Pandur, Dan Neil, and Kevin Kelsy.

In the summer of 2025, too many of the signings made by the Light Blues failed to live up to the hype and achieve success at Ibrox, and Bojan Miovski has yet to turn his career in Glasgow around.

What the future holds for Bojan Miovski at Rangers

Rangers paid a fee of £2.6m to sign the Macedonia international from Girona last year, knowing that he had already scored 32 goals in two seasons in the Scottish Premiership with Aberdeen in the past.

Given his record in the Premiership prior to arriving at Ibrox, it was fair to expect the left-footed marksman to hit the ground running with the Light Blues, but that was not how it played out.

Miovski has only scored eight goals in 32 appearances in the league for the Gers since the start of last season, and only started 14 of his 30 games in the division last term.

The left-footed forward has fallen behind Lawrence Shankland, Ryan Naderi, Youssef Chermiti, and Kevin Kelsy in the pecking order, and has only played 22 minutes in the Premiership this season.

That means that the club may need to make a decision on his short-term future when the January transfer window rolls around, as neither party benefits from him sitting on the sidelines week-in-week-out.

Therefore, a January exit could be on the cards for the former Aberdeen star unless he finds a way to break into the team on a regular basis in the next three months.

How Rangers made a worse signing than Miovski

Miovski was not the only player signed in the summer of 2025 who failed to step up to the mark during the 2025/26 campaign for Russell Martin and Danny Rohl.

The Light Blues wanted to bolster their options in the wide areas and agreed a deal worth £4m to sign Oliver Antman from Dutch side Go Ahead Eagles.

In the 2024/25 campaign, the Finland international scored six goals and provided 15 assists in the Eredivisie for the Dutch side, which made the forward an exciting signing at the time of his move to Ibrox.

The right-footed attacker joined on £14k-per-week wages after arriving for £4m, which meant that the Gers paid in excess of £4.7m for his services last season.

Unfortunately, the Scottish giants did not get much value back from the Finnish forward on the pitch, as he ended the 2025/26 campaign with one goal scored in 28 appearances in all competitions.

Whilst Miovski scored 11 goals in 42 games for Rangers in all competitions last term, Antman rarely contributed when he had the opportunity to play on the flank.

His lack of end product, as both a creator and a scorer, led to him falling down the pecking order and eventually being sold in the summer transfer window, as McInnes allowed him to sign for Anderlecht on a permanent basis.

Antman’s move to Belgium in the summer meant that he ended his Rangers career with one goal scored and five assists supplied in 28 games, which is not an impressive attacking return from a winger who cost in excess of £4.7m in transfer fees and wages.

The 25-year-old attacker was an unused substitute on nine occasions in the Premiership for Rohl, suggesting that the German boss did not trust him to play regular minutes in the forward line.

Antman, therefore, was an even worse signing than Miovski for the Scottish giants because he contributed less at the top end of the pitch and was let go earlier than the striker, despite joining in the same summer.

Whilst the Macedonia international may go on to leave Rangers in January, the ex-Aberdeen star has offered more value to the team with his goals over the past 13 months.
