WWE Hall of Famer Fred Ottman, famously known as Typhoon, Tugboat, and The Shockmaster, has canceled an upcoming appearance as he recuperates from eye surgery. The 70-year-old had planned to attend the 80s Wrestling Con in Parsippany, New Jersey, on October 31 but shared in a Facebook video that he is currently unable to fly.
“I’ve got some unfortunate news: I was supposed to be at the 80s Con up north on October 31, but due to multiple eye surgeries, I can’t fly for a while, along with some other ongoing issues,” Ottman explained. “I’ve got a few things still in progress, not just these stylish geriatric shades helping me with the light right now.”
“I wanted to keep everyone informed because I’m truly disappointed to miss the event. Hopefully, I’ll be in better shape down the road. Love you all, just giving you a heads-up,” he added.
This update follows Ottman’s brief hospitalization in September. After his release, he reported feeling improvement, although he was undergoing further medical evaluations without providing additional specifics. Earlier in the year, he also faced a medical emergency related to his gallbladder. We send our best wishes for his swift recovery.
Ottman and his late tag team partner John Tenta, who performed as Earthquake, were inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2025 as The Natural Disasters. The duo captured the WWE Tag Team Championship in 1992.
Fan Take: Fred Ottman’s health updates resonate deeply with wrestling fans who value the pioneers of the sport. His ongoing recovery reminds us of the physical toll wrestling legends endure, underscoring the importance of honoring and supporting these icons as they navigate life beyond the ring.
