Tottenham Hotspur could pursue Brighton winger Kaoru Mitoma as Roberto De Zerbi considers reuniting with his former player.
The Japan international has reached a crucial stage in his Brighton career, with his contract set to expire in June 2027 and extension talks reportedly stalling.
Mitoma remains an important attacking option for the Seagulls, but uncertainty about his future has opened the door for several European clubs to consider a move.
Kaoru Mitoma could reunite with De Zerbi
De Zerbi knows Mitoma particularly well from their time together at Brighton, where the winger developed into one of the Premier League’s most dangerous left-flank players.
The Tottenham manager could now view the 29-year-old as an attractive opportunity, particularly if Brighton become willing to negotiate a reduced fee rather than risk losing him for nothing next summer.
Spurs have already been active in the transfer market under De Zerbi and could look to strengthen their attacking options further if Mitoma becomes available, as per TEAMtalk.
Mitoma’s ability to carry the ball, beat defenders and create opportunities could make him an appealing addition to Tottenham’s squad. However, his recent fitness problems could complicate any potential January approach.
The winger suffered a hamstring injury towards the end of last season and underwent surgery, with Brighton confirming that he had begun his rehabilitation programme.
Mitoma’s future remains uncertain
Liverpool are also understood to remain interested in the Japanese star, while clubs outside England have monitored his situation.
Brighton will understandably hope Mitoma returns to full fitness and rediscovers his best form before deciding his future.
For Tottenham, meanwhile, the prospect of bringing a proven Premier League winger back under De Zerbi could become increasingly interesting if contract talks remain stalled.
Much could depend on whether Brighton receive a suitable offer in January or decide to keep Mitoma until the end of his current agreement.
