OwnerView has announced that nominations are now open for the 2026 New Owner of the Year Award, sponsored by 1/ST RACING. This award recognizes a newcomer to Thoroughbred ownership who has achieved success in the sport and contributed positively to the industry.
To qualify for the award, nominees must have started their Thoroughbred ownership journey within the last four years (since 2023), held an ownership interest in a horse that won a stakes race within the past 12 months, and possess a valid owner license in 2026. Both the nominee’s racing achievements and their efforts to promote the sport will be taken into account.
Anyone, including current owners, can nominate a candidate who meets these requirements. A selection committee will review the nominations and select the winner.
To nominate someone, contact Gary Falter for a nomination form at 859.224.2803 or via email at gfalter@jockeyclub.com. All nominations must be received by November 2.
Past recipients of the New Owner of the Year Award include Griffin Johnson, John Stewart and Jayson Werth (co-winners), Jim and Dana Bernhard, Alexander Bregman, Pat Kearney and Richard Dawson (co-winners), Boat Racing, MyRacehorse, Larry Best, Churchill Downs Racing Club, Charles and Susan Chu, LNJ Foxwoods, and Sol Kumin.
