Chase Briscoe held off fierce challenges from Kyle Larson and Tyler Reddick to secure the victory at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Sunday. This win was especially significant for Briscoe, who had narrowly missed out on a similar chance the previous week at Kansas. In that race, Briscoe overtook Larson for the lead with 30 laps remaining after Larson had dominated most of the day, only to have Larson reclaim the top spot with seven laps to go. Reflecting on that effort, Briscoe admitted he went into “desperation mode” trying to catch Larson again.
This week, however, Briscoe emerged victorious, a triumph that lifted his spirits after last week’s disappointment. Immediately after crossing the finish line, he even apologized to his crew for not winning back-to-back races. When asked if this win made up for the earlier loss, Briscoe initially agreed but then reconsidered, saying, “We could have had another win. I don’t think I would’ve been able to get on the plane; they would’ve all kicked my butt if I didn’t pull that one off, especially [crew chief] James Small. I was scared to see him if I didn’t.”
Larson frequently closed the gap and seemed poised for another comeback, but Briscoe’s expert handling in the final laps kept him ahead of the Chase leader. “In turns one and two, it’s a big guessing game, but I knew if I hit the bottom correctly and slowed down in turns three and four, which I’m usually not great at, he was going to struggle to pass me,” Briscoe explained. “I’m just glad I held on. Last week was mentally tough after letting one slip away.”
With this victory, Briscoe moved up three positions in the Chase standings and is now 84 points behind the leader with five races remaining. His ability to fend off Larson also prevented the No. 5 team from significantly extending their lead in the postseason halfway point. Next week, the Chase will continue at Charlotte, where Briscoe, Larson, and the other contenders will battle to inch closer to the championship.
Fan Take: This win not only marks a major momentum boost for Briscoe but also shakes up the Chase leaderboard at a critical stage, keeping the championship fight wide open. For NASCAR fans, moments like these—where perseverance pays off and rivalries intensify—add thrilling drama that defines the sport’s heart and excitement.
