Mikel Arteta announced that last season’s triumph in the Premier League was merely the start for Arsenal, following the extension of his contract for three more years at the Emirates Stadium.
On Wednesday, the Gunners confirmed that Arteta has signed a new agreement lasting until 2030, just as he was set to enter the final year of his previous contract.
Since taking over Arsenal – where he played 150 matches from 2011 to 2016 – in November 2019, Arteta has guided the team back to prominence in English football.
After finishing as Premier League runners-up in three consecutive seasons (2022-23, 2023-24, and 2024-25), Arteta finally led Arsenal to their first league title in 22 years in the 2025-26 season.
He also brought the team to the finals of both the FA Cup and the Champions League, although they lost to Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain in those matches.
Arteta’s first major trophy came in his inaugural season with an FA Cup victory against Chelsea in 2020, and the team has consistently improved under his leadership, moving from eighth in the Premier League in both 2019-20 and 2020-21 to second place for three consecutive seasons, culminating in their title win.
With a win rate of 61% over 361 matches (W220 D67 L74), Arteta boasts the highest percentage of any manager in Arsenal’s history (minimum of 25 matches), underscoring his belief that there’s still more success ahead.

“This club is special, with its unique character and how it makes you feel, and I am genuinely grateful that our journey will continue together,” Arteta shared on the club’s website.
“We’ve already formed a special connection and created memories that will last a lifetime. The most thrilling part is that this is just the beginning of what we can achieve together.”
“This is a moment of immense pride for me and my family. I feel the support and respect from our amazing fans, and I offer them the same in return.”
Throughout his time at Arsenal, Arteta has managed 253 Premier League matches, second only to Arsène Wenger (828) in the club’s history.
In August, he became just the 10th manager in Premier League history to oversee over 250 games for a single club, joining names like Ferguson, Guardiola, and Klopp.
Among this group, only Ferguson (65%), Guardiola (71%), and Klopp (63%) have better win rates than Arteta’s 60%.
Arsenal faced their first Premier League loss of the current season before the international break, suffering a 3-0 defeat to high-performing Brighton, but they aim to bounce back at home against unbeaten Leeds United this Saturday.
Fan Take: Mikel Arteta’s contract extension not only solidifies Arsenal’s commitment to a successful future but also highlights the growing competitive landscape in soccer. For fans, this stability could bring exciting prospects, potentially leading to further trophies and a resurgence of the club’s glory days.
