David Silva, the Manchester City icon, has come out of retirement at the age of 40 to sign with Sha Tin, a club competing in the Hong Kong Premier League.
Between 2010 and 2020, Silva made a total of 309 appearances in the Premier League for City, which is the highest for any player in the club’s history.
During his time in the league, he netted 60 goals and assisted 93, ranking second in assists behind Kevin De Bruyne’s 118, and secured four league titles.
Additionally, he lifted the FA Cup twice, the EFL Cup five times, and the Community Shield on two occasions at the Etihad Stadium, along with winning two European Championships and a World Cup with Spain.
Silva retired in 2023 after three seasons with Real Sociedad due to a significant knee injury, but now he will play for a team that currently sits eighth in the Hong Kong Premier League after moving up to the top division last season.
“I’m really looking forward to experiencing Hong Kong, enjoying the local culture and cuisine in Sha Tin, and, of course, playing football here,” Silva mentioned in a video shared on Instagram.
Before joining Manchester City, Silva began his career at Valencia, where he contributed to 46 goal involvements (21 goals and 25 assists) across 119 appearances in LaLiga.
