Arsenal have reportedly emerged as one of the frontrunners to sign one of Europe’s most exciting young strikers, handing Mikel Arteta a major boost in his search for attacking reinforcements.
The Gunners made attempts to strengthen their frontline during the summer transfer window, but ultimately came up short in their pursuit of several high-profile targets, including Vinicius Junior and Julian Alvarez.
Those frustrations have only been compounded by Viktor Gyokeres’ struggles this season, with the Sweden international failing to consistently deliver the goals expected of him since his arrival in north London.
Speculation over his future has already emerged, with reports the 28 year-old wants to leave on loan in January, which would force Andrea Berta back into the market.
Journalist and Arsenal supporter Eduardo Hagn suggested this week a January departure could suit both the player and the club.
“If Gyökeres ends up leaving in January, it would make sense for every party. Arsenal would then have a big task in hand.
“Get the CF signing right. Just follow what Arteta wants. Do not sign because the deal is cheap.
“Options are plenty if it comes to a young CF with potential.”
However, Arsenal’s hopes of securing Alvarez’s signature appear to have suffered a setback, as the Atletico Madrid star is set to choose agent Pablo Barquero as his new representation.
The move is believed to be designed to engineer a transfer to Barcelona, given Barquero’s connections, having facilitated Rodri’s summer move to the Catalan giants.
Arsenal therefore are on the back foot against Barcelona in one transfer race, but have now edged ahead of the LaLiga leaders in another.
Arsenal among frontrunners for Nicolo Tresoldi
According to Italian outlet Tuttosport, via Sport Witness, Arsenal are among the ‘frontrunners’ to sign Club Brugge sensation Nicolo Tresoldi, who has attracted widespread attention following his outstanding performances in the Champions League.
The 22-year-old has scored nine goals in just 11 appearances across all competitions this season and currently leads the Champions League scoring charts, having recently netted a hat-trick against Inter Milan in a thrilling 4-3 victory.
His performances have put several of Europe’s biggest clubs on alert, with Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Tottenham Hotspur also credited with an interest, but seemingly behind the Gunners as things stand.
A deal would represent a significant investment, with Club Brugge understood to have valued Tresoldi at around €60m during the summer, when Roma reportedly attempted to sign him for €35m.
Tresoldi joined Brugge from Hannover 96 in 2025 and has quickly established himself as one of the most exciting young forwards in European football.
With uncertainty surrounding Gyokeres’ future and Barcelona seemingly holding the advantage in the pursuit of Alvarez, Tresoldi could provide Arsenal with an intriguing alternative, having been hailed as one of the elite strikers in Europe by former Bayern Munich and Inter goalkeeper Yann Sommer.
“Tresoldi can, without any doubt, become a top European striker,” he said. “He has the qualities to play for a big club.”
