Newcastle United are looking to make improvements to their attack, after coming up short in a disappointing 1-0 home defeat against Aston Villa at the weekend.
Matthias Jaissle is now on a run of three defeats in four Premier League matches, and the performance didn’t offer much reason for encouragement, with his side registering just one shot on target throughout the entire match.
The Magpies have lacked a consistent goalscorer during the early stages of the Premier League season, with Joe Willock and Anthony Elanga the only members of the squad who have scored more than one goal thus far.
Dion Dublin stated Jaissle’s attackers posed “no threat on the Villa goal” last time out, despite getting into good positions, and a record of eight points from their opening seven Premier League matches is concerning.
The defence is arguably more of a concern, having conceded 14 goals already this season, with four of those coming against newly-promoted Coventry City, but the PIF are now looking to bring in a new forward.

Newcastle eyeing move for David Otorbi
According to a report from TEAMtalk, Newcastle are now actively monitoring Valencia star David Otorbi, and a deal could be relatively inexpensive, given that there is a €30m (£25m) included in his contract with the La Liga side.
However, Otorbi’s agent, Nacho Gallart, has confirmed a number of Premier League clubs are keen on signing his client, saying: “He’s a player with a lot of market value, and always has been. In recent weeks, we’ve received calls from quite a few clubs. It’s true that many clubs have called us, especially from the Premier League.”
A January move isn’t looking particularly likely, but there is a realistic chance the 19-year-old ends up leaving Valencia next summer, after forcing his way into first-team contention during the early stages of the campaign.
The Spaniard has featured in eight of Valencia’s nine La Liga matches so far this season, scoring one goal, which came in a 2-2 draw against Racing Santander earlier this month, while he also completed two dribbles and created one big chance.
Valencia manager Javier Aguirre has since lauded the starlet, who could compete with the likes of Elanga and Murphy for a starting spot, saying: “I’ve rarely seen such a young player with such a fearless approach to the game. He’s a special player, that’s undeniable.”
With Murphy’s contract set to expire at the end of the season, Newcastle could do with signing a new right-winger, and Otorbi has been showing encouraging signs, after breaking the record to become Valencia’s youngest-ever player, although he is yet to establish himself as a regular starter.
